Coffee Hour 与教授面对面

The last Coffee Hour activity of 2013 took place one day before the Christmas Eve. As the New Year is approaching, the gathering in Room 901 was like a small party filled with excitement and happiness.
2013年最后一期Coffee Hour活动在平安夜的前一天照常举行。由于新年将至，活动充满了节日的气氛，犹如一场欢乐温馨的聚会。

This time the MF program invited Professor Xu Yexiao and Professor Zhao Bin as the special guests. Both professors were experienced in the academic field and offered their advice for gaining knowledge and conducting research. For professor Zhao, learning is a continuous process which always starts from the simplest case and the only way to master any field is to put enough time of effort in it. Besides, Professor Xu shared his 3-step method of reading research paper: the first step is to catch the main idea of the paper, with the second step digging into the details, and finally use the last step to form the whole picture of the paper.

本次MF项目组请来了Xu Yexiao教授和赵彬教授作为活动嘉宾。两位教授在学术领域都有着丰富的经验，与SAIF的同学们分享了他们在学习和研究方面的经历和建议。在赵彬教授看来，学习是一个由简入难的连续过程，想要真正掌握一门学科，必须付出足够的时间和精力。Xu Yexiao教授则教给了大家他的论文阅读“三步法”：首先通过阅读抓住论文的中心思想，然后在第二遍阅读的时候钻研论文的技术细节，最后再通读全文，将主题和细节串联起来。

The most interesting question raised during the activity was “to describe your impression of SAIF students and give some suggestion for further improvement”. According to both professors, SAIF students are intelligent, hardworking and ambitious, but sometimes are short-run oriented. They emphasized the importance of choices, “Life is full of tradeoffs. You should find your real goals and make the best of your time to strive for that goal”.

活动中同学们提出的最有意思的问题莫过于“谈谈对于高金学生的印象并提供一些改进的建议”。在两位教授看来，高金的学生基础扎实，勤学刻苦也渴求进步，但是有时可能会拘泥于短期的工作而缺乏长远的目标。教授们强调了选择的重要性，“生活中充满了各种选择。你们需要找到自己真正有激情去做的事，然后围绕这个目标合理地规划自己的人生。”

The event on December 23^rd marked the end of 2013’s student life activities. We believe the year of 2014 will be a better year for both SAIF students and the MF program.

12月23日的活动为2013年的高金学生活动划上了圆满的句号。我们相信即将来临的2014年对于高金的同学们和MF项目组来说都将是一个更加快乐、美好而充实的一年。
